Zia wondered, why, again, she had volunteered for this? She was in the gym, adding the final touches to the decorations, and quite honestly, she had no idea why she had bothered. Zia never, and I mean never helped out in school events. Except this one apparently. Maybe the reason she had signed up was because the dance was a masquerade/Mardi Gras themed ball, and therefore an interesting idea for the artist she was? Who knows. The fact is, the gym had now been transformed into something of a street-in-New-Orleans-during-Mardi-Gras, with the colourful beads and masks scattered on tables around the perimeter. Also amoung the tables, were various refreshments such as punch, fruit, crackers, and crisps. The DJ was setting up his booth at the very end of the gym - on the stage, and the lights were already slowly turning, lighting up various corners of the room in shades of blue, green, red, and yellow.
Zia sighed as she looked up at the ceiling of the gym - definatley her favourite part by far. It was decorated with many multi-coloured streamers, hanging from the eaves, and the basketball hoops. Also, a net containing hundreds of blown up balloons was hanging at the top, waiting to be dropped when the string attached to it was pulled. She may not like to help out with school activities, but she had to admit, this was pretty cool, how the gym had been transformed. A couple of her fellow decorators milled around the gym as well, also admiring their hard work, and how much more different the gym looked now - as compared to a couple of hours ago. The DJ was finally set up, and he began to play a soft, almost soothing song - to warm everybody up - Zia guessed. She looked at her watch with surprise. It was already 6:30! The dance was to begin in half an hour, and she wasn't yet changed. She ran out of the gym, and to her dorm, where she got dressed and did her makeup and hair.
20 minutes later, Zia re-entered the gym, looking beautiful, and totally glamorous. Her dress was a gorgeous shade of lavender, softly sweeping the ground with its' flowing, silky fabric. It fit Zia like a glove, its' strapless top showing off her dainty, feminine shoulders. A subtle but beautiful silver necklace in the shape of a lightening bolt rested on her collarbone, slightly glittering in the dim light of the gym. Her hair was done up in an elegant updo, with little tufts tastefully framing her face. Finally, her makeup was simple, and brought out her features. Her eyes were rimmed with a little bit of eyeliner - as opposed to her usual heavy - and her eyelids were dusted with a bit of light purple eyeshadow. A single swipe of lipgloss on her lips finished up the look. Zia retreated to sit in the corner, on a chair provided, until the rest of the students - and her friends - arrived.

Sabrina let out a sigh of appriciation as she walked into the gym, her black heels making light clicking noises on the wooden floor. Sabrina realized she was one of the first few to come to the dance. She wasn't usually keen to coming to dances. Most of the queen bee's simply took over everything. Sabrina grinned as she saw Zia sitting in the corner of the gym, alone. Sabrina began making her way over, carefully avoiding all obstacles which stood in her way, as to not trip and fall. She was likely to trip in fall in regular shoes, let alone high heels. Nobody had really ever taught her how to pick out dresses, shoes, wear make-up, or any of the girly things. Sabrina's parents were hardly ever home due to their demanding career's and Sabrina assumed that they were happy to get rid of her, by sending them to a boarding school. Her only consolation was that Zia was here. Other than that, Sabrina was an outcast. To everything and everybody. Tonight Sabrina had selected a black halter dress which was simple, but classy. Small dangly earrings hung elegantly on her ears and her lip ring shone seemed to shine in the dim light. Her hair had elegant red streaks which contrasted with the deep brown of her naturally colored hair and swept down to the middle of her back. Her blue eyes seemed to glow against the black eyeliner and light blue eyeshadow she had selected.
Sabrina finally made it over to her old friend, "Hey there.", she said grinning and taking a seat next to her, "The place looks amazing, as do you", she said motioning to the gym and then looking over her gorgeous friends attire. "I decided to humour this dance and actually show up.", Sabrina said smiling shyly. "Everything really does look amazing though. Where is everyone?", she asked tucking her hair nervously behind her ear.

Dez walked into the dance, her red strapless mini reaching just below mid thigh. For her own touch, she had added a large belt around her waist. Her peep toe heels clicked along the floor. She was new here, and thought that coming to the dance would be a great way to meet people. She still wasn't sure what everyone here would think about her. I mean, she was singer. That was what she thrived for in life. The only make up she wore was black eyeliner and some blush. Her lips of the palest pink were glossy and wet. Luscious brunette locks piled on her head, waves cascading down her back like a fountain. Resting on her collarbone was her favorite necklace. One her mother had given her. It was a heart encrusted with diamonds. Definately beautiful.
Chocolate eyes glanced around. Not many people here yet. Maybe dances weren't all that popular here. If they weren't then she would be in trouble. She loved dances, but the slow ones were the most awkward. Not knowing anybody here yet, she wouldn't have anyone to slow dance with. Definately not good. Noticing two girls talking, Dez decided to introduce herself, hoping that she wouldn't get into trouble.
Hi. I'm Desiree. Mind if I join you? she asked hestiantly. Her hair shimmering in the scarce light. Boarding school. This was her first experience at one. Wasn't something she liked so far. She didn't even think that boarding schools had dances. Dez always thought they were stuck up schools with stuck up people who didn't approve of anybody who wasn't good at sports or who didn't want to go to med school or law school. That was why she was so apprehensive. What she wanted to be was a performer. She knew she had the chops for it. Singing and dancing on stage. She waited for them to say whether she could join or not.

Ah, dances. She loved school dances. They were always fun, and it was a time where Courtney could easily show off as well. If the shoe fits, right? She walked in and looked around, her icy blue eyes widening in amazement. Courtney wore a tight silver strap-less dress, which easily hugged her curves. The colour seemed to make her blonde hair a silvery-blonde type of shade. She wore matching gloves, that reached just below her elbows. Her hair was set into tight, bouncy curls with an added star-shaped pin in it. Courtney was never the type to wear flashy jewelery, but for this special occasion, she wore sterling silver earrings with a matching diamond necklace. She had also sprinkled silver eyeshadow and a starry-night-sky-black as eyeliner. She looked around for a brief second, before spotting Zia and Sabrina, and a girl who she figured was new.
"Zia! Sabrina!" Courtney exclaimed, her tone sounding warm for once in her life, and hurrying over to them, yet in her always graceful manner. It was easy, walking in heels. But she was quite sure the night would end painfully. "You two look amazing, darlings," she said, hugging both of them before turning to look at the girl. "Hello," Courtney greeted, inclining her head.

Chocolate eyes gazed at this girl. Most likelly one of the popular girls here. Oh well. Why judge people? Maybe she was nice. She pulled up her strapless mini. She didn't really need to, but it was a habit. Desiree always did that. This girl was a beauty. How would she get a guy if all the girls looked like these three? It would be impossible. Guess she would be single for the rest of her time here. Two years. That seemed like a LONG time for her. Her black peeptoes showed off a little of the pedicure she had given herself. Painted her toes red to match the dress. Long, healty fingers ran through her hair. Quite wavy today. She'd had a shower and put moose in so that it looked good.
Glancing up at the roof, Dez finally figured out how beautiful it looked in here. Maybe the people were nice. Breaking out of her shell she said "Hi" to the girl who was apparently speaking to her. Suddenly she felt self conscese in her dress. Ok. So she looked like a bombshell. That meant nothing if she had nobody to talk to about it. No guy to comment on it. I'm Desiree she said smiling slightly. Showing off her pearly white teeth, hoping that she wouldn't regret it later.

Sabrina smiled warmly at the newcomer "Sure. I'm Sabrina this is my friend Zia.", she said motioning towards Zia. "Hey Court!", Sabrina said cheerfully to her good friend. Sure she came off as an evil butt, but Courtney and Sabrina surprisingly got along well, "You look amazing too, dear. As usual. Decided not to be fasionably late?", Sabrina added with a small giggle. Courtney was easily one of the girliest people she had ever met. Well she is one of the queen bee's. a voice told her in her head, but that didn't get in the way of their close friendship.
Sabrina tapped her foot to the music now pouring out of the sound system close to the DJ. "Do you think they might actually play some decent music? Or is it going to be another big grammar mistake of a song?", Sabrina asked Zia a smile coming across her pale face. Sabrina sighed at the pile of people making their way into the gym. Pretty soon Courtney was going to be swept away by one of the jocks, Zia was going to be crowded by her art friends, and Sabrina was going to make her way upstairs not even bothering to stay for the food.

Dez just stood there, not really part of the conversation. Now what? She knew nobody here, and these three obviously knew each other. They would talk the whole time, or get swept away by some handsome guy. Then Dez would be left in the dust again. Everyone would leave, and she would be the new kid with nobody to dance with. Out of nervous habit, she toyed with her necklace. Dez wasn't all that talkative. She usually listened to the other person. Wow. the gym looked so good. Dez wondered who decorated it. She shifted her weight.
Dez watched as a group of people came in. Wow. Dez didn't do so well with crowds either. She usually just stuck to five people. Well, she didn't have to worry either though. She tightened her high ponytail. She watched the DJ. Unfortunately she didn't know the song playing. Oh well. Dez made a mental note that the girls' names were Sabrina, Zia, and Courtney. Maybe by chance she would see them again after this.

"You look amazing too, dear. As usual. Decided not to be fasionably late?"
Courtney smiled coyly at Sabrina, before saying, "Oh, you know me too well, it's rather scaryyyy," she said, with a laugh. She looked around at the decorations. "This place looks amazing. I was in here with Zia the other day, it was so dark." Her eyes trailed over to meet Zia's before quickly glancing away. She noticed the newcomers and gave a little frown. For once, she wasn't interested with everyone else, she was perfectly content standing here with her friends. Though, Courtney was quite sure it was a matter of time before some bitch or asshole approaches her.
She shook her head before turning to look at Desiree. "So, you're new here, right?" Courtney asked, smiling politely. "Don't worry, this place isn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. You'll get used to it." Ugh, there she went again, being nice.

Yeah, okay, so Zia had a tendency to space out, or day dream - a lot. Now, was apparently one of those moments. She shook her head in astonishment as she realized that Courtney and Sabrina were already by her side, looking glamorous and well-made up, as always. She also noticed a new girl that joined them. What was her name... Danielle? Dalia? Zia didn't need to wonder any more, however, because the girl recited her name. "Ah, so it was Desiree." Zia thought, as she nodded in acknowledgment to the girl. Sighing, she rubbed her arms, as goosebumps had randomly popped up on them. She supposed it was her slight paranoia, after that ghost spotting in the library, a couple of days before. Looking around the room, Zia's dark blue eyes narrowed, as she noticed that no guys had yet arrived. What fun was a dance without any guys? Standing up, she stretched, with her arms over her head.
"Now, I know that there's not many people here yet, but I for one, want to get moving. Join me on the dance floor?" she asked the girls, not really singling anyone out in particular, as she grabbed the mask she had crafted earlier that day, and headed out to the empty dance floor. The mask, which she was holding in her hand, matched her dress. It was decorated with deep purple ribbons criss-crossing over the eyes, and bits of lavender lace hanging off the sides. She held it up to her face, and swayed her hips slightly with the music, which was some sort of an electronica/dance mix. Turning towards the other girls, she smirked, and waved them over. "Come on, it won't kill you!" she exclaimed, with a giggle.

Harley stepped quietly through the corridor towards the gym. Her favorite theme was masqerade, and she intended to have a great time. She wondered if Jeremy would show up, and started into daydreaming. She finally reached the ticket checker, infront of the door to the dance. She quickly handed in her ticket, and that was that. Pretty much everyone knew about her crush on Jeremy, so she hoped nobody made fun of her- not that it would matter much.
She went through the doors, and made her way around the large gym. She looked around, and spotted food, ribbons, people, and speakers. Awesome. She bent down to fix the strap of her navy-blue rhinestone sandle-type heels. After she felt content with her feet, she brushed the puffy-poofy stuff of her dress down. Harley was wearing one of her favorite colors- navy blue. The dress itself was sleeveless, and it went down to the floor. Around her waist it poofed out like an umbrella. She had her normal set of makeup on; dark eyeliner and mascara. Her long hair was brushed out, and her natural curls (which she normally straightened out) waved through her hair. Her mask was gold-lined around the eyes and edges, navy blue mask. Those colors worked well with her.
She spied Zia and Dez, with some other people she didn't recognize, dancing. She put her mask up to her face, and walked quickly to meet them. "Geuss who?" Harley joked, with a smile.

Desiree fidgeted. She wasn't good with awkwardness. She knew nobody, and they didn't seem to like to dance. She sighed. This would be an interesting school year. The other girl hadn't been talking for a while. Dez almost forgot her name. Zia, she thought it was. If she forgot names, she would be off to a bad start. She noticed Zia's mask. Wow. It was beautiful. Dez could never make anything like that. Her dad had made hers. Being a photographer, he had an eye for what went with what. Her mask was white, with flicks of red throughout. She took the mask. Sure. I'll dance if that's ok Dez half smiled.
One of her favorite songs came on. Now it was a dance. Sometimes dances had the worst music, and then nobody wanted to dance. There were no boys yet. Hopefully they would come soon. But, they wouldn't dance with her. Oh well. She could dance with these guys.

Sabrina smiled slightly at Zia. Leave it up to her to start the dancing. "No thanks.", Sabrina said sighing and settling into her chair more comfortably, "With these shoes on, and with my klutziness, you're going to end up carrying me back to my dorm. Or I'm going to end up stepping on someones foot with my heel.", she continued laughing slightly, "I think it'd be safest would be if I stayed seated.", Sabrina finished sighing with a smile.
Sabrina raised her eyebrow questioningly at the newcomer, but she seemed to know Zia. Sabrina shrugged slightly, not being able to recognize her and traced the outline of her own mask. Her black mask with red outline and intricate design drawn on. Sabrina had drawn it herself, seeing as she had a lot of experience with drawing nothing in particular. As an aspiring tattoo artist, she had to learn to do different designs. Designs that didn't mean anything, but were simply appealing to the eye. Sabrina hummed along to the tune of the song slightly tapping her foot to the beat. Where were boys when you needed them?
